Why does suffering exist?

If God wants us to be happy, why doesn’t he prevent suffering on earth?

How many times have you wondered why God allows suffering, and how many times have you doubted God’s goodness because of this? However, what God desired and still desires for us is quite different.  But then why does suffering exist? And if God wants us to be happy, why doesn’t he prevent suffering on earth? Why does God not prevent things that cause suffering?
